Liberty is the county seat of Clay County and one of the oldest towns in the Kansas City area. It’s known for its historic downtown square, built around the Clay County Courthouse, and for William Jewell College, a private liberal arts college founded in 1849. Interstate 35 runs along the west side of town, connecting Liberty to Kansas City and the rest of the Northland.
